Mercury - the Devil or Messenger of the Gods?

I know I have been talking alot about Mercury lately, but that is the nature of astrology - if we get to know one planet thoroughly, then we can use that planet to improve our world.  And since we are still in a Mercury Retrograde, Mercury is still the star of the show.  If you have never heard of Mercury before, you will probably never forget THIS Mercury Retrograde!

See the Symbol or Glyph above? - that's the image of Mercury - it looks like a man with horns, doesn't it?  The ancient ones actually called Mercury "the devil."  That's probably because the mind acts like a devil, especially when we are tortured by negative thoughts and depression.  Ever experience a "dark night of the soul"?  That's when the mind is filled with dark thoughts.

Mercury is also called the "trickster," because it changes shape so easily.  And the mind can sometimes plays tricks on us, and tell us things that are not real.  Or we forget things very easily, especially as we get over 50!  During this particular Mercury Retrograde in the sign of Scorpio, it can make us believe that Life is dark and gloomy, especially since the weather is becoming more dark and gloomy.

But wait a minute.  Stop, and reflect.  Take another look.

The mind can also be your best friend.  It helps you perceive the world in all it's beauty and magic.  My favorite description of Mercury is "the messenger of the gods."  In Ancient Mythology, Mercury was the god with wings on his feet.  By reading positive books, by listening to positive messages, by hanging out with positive people, we rise above that devilish lower mind.  By using affirmations, mantras, and chanting, the mind calms down and become a tool for enlightenment.  Mercury is also related to all the senses of perception:  the eyes, the ears, the hands.  It is also related to the air we breathe and the lungs.

So, Breathe deeply and watch how the mind slows down when the breath slows down.

Take a walk, clear your head, be light, laugh, and listen to the music of the spheres.  Make Mercury and your mind your friend.  Now see the symbol above in a different light - as a man with a satellite dish on his head, receiving messages from the Universe, from Spirit, from the Higher Self.

Listen to Native American Flutes and Chants, and Tibetan Bells.  Listen to the sounds of nature, especially a babbling brook.  Buy a nice waterfall fountain for your home.  The mind can be slowed down with practice.

And remember, more will be revealed.

Love,

Christina
