So, are you feeling a little like this scorpion lately?  -- like you want to sting yourself over and over again with negative thoughts?    Mercury (the mind) is currently "going backwards" in the sign of Scorpio, so things may "seem" a little dark and gloomy these days.  Scorpio relates to the deeper mysteries of life, such as Death, Sex, Money, and What's It All About; if these issues are coming up for you (more than usual), chalk it up to Mercury Retrograde in Scorpio!

Mercury, as we have discussed before, is related to The Mind.  Mercury is also related to the element Mercury.  Did you ever have an experience of breaking a thermometer, and when you tried to catch the little beads of Mercury that burst out of it, you found that it was almost impossible?  Well, it is very difficult to catch the physical element of Mercury, ("quicksilver"), and it is very difficult to catch the mind as well. 

When those little beads rolled around, they absorbed all they touched, like little pieces of dust and crumbs.  The mind does that too - it becomes whatever it perceives.   The mind takes in information, through the eyes, and the ears (especially now, with those bluetooth devices that make us look like robots!) - through our vision, words, e-mail, etc.  Having computer problems lately? 

Then this same mind projects all that information outwards, and believes this information to be it's own reality.  How amazing is that?  It's like we are walking around with our own personal movie projector.  

We may "think" we can control it, but the mind is very powerful.  It literally has a "mind of it's own." 

The only way the mind can really be slowed down is through meditation and prayer.
