Christmas Full Moon In Cancer Moving Us into 2008!

Last week I spoke of the Winter Solstice, which took place this year on Saturday, December 22nd.  The Solstice (Sun Standing Still) is a time which signifies the Sun going into the sign of Capricorn.  At my house, we celebrated very much like the ancients did - we drank hot apple cider, walked the labyrinth, and built a small bonfire in my back yard.   (See Labyrinth photos on previous blog!)

Soon after that, at 7 pm on December 23rd, just before Christmas Eve, a Full Moon took place.  And, since the Full Moon is always in the OPPOSITE sign of the Sun, this Full Moon was in the sign of Cancer.

Now, this opposition of Sun in Capricorn and Moon in Cancer is the classic one that takes place each year at this time.  It is the push and pull between the Father Principle (Capricorn) and the Mother Principle (Cancer).  It is the pull between Business (Capricorn) and Home (Cancer) - were you torn between the Shopping Malls and Baking Cookies? - between our Future Destiny (Capricorn rules 10th House - the Zenith, or Midheaven of the Natal Chart) - and our Past Upbringing (Cancer rules the 4th House - the Nadir of the Natal Chart.)

So, all these opposing ideas seemed to be pulling us and stretching us like a rubber band during this past week - "Buy this, Do This, Be This, and Be Sure to Revisit your PAST - "Come HOME for the Holidays!".  Well, Home is where the fight takes place between the archetype of Capricorn (usually the Father), saying, "What are you making of your life?" versus the archetype of Cancer (usually the Mother), saying, - "Have another helping, dear....!"

Isn't this ironic?  In the body, Capricorn is associated with the physical structure - knees, bones and skin - and Cancer is associated with the breasts and stomache - So, while seeking some form of nurturing, we overeat, and end up on our knees, saying "Oh God, I'll never do that again!"

And, to add to the fray, this year, Mars (the planet of Ego and Physical / Sexual Drive) has been and is still Retrograde (Backwards) in Cancer, so if you happened to notice a pinkish planet sparkling next to that Full Moon in Cancer, that little bugger caused everyone to be more edgy and testy during this Christmas Week.  It will be going backwards further into Gemini for the next few weeks, so catch yourself before saying something in anger -- slow down and breathe!  (Gemini is associated with lungs and speech).  And watch out for that Road Rage!  (Gemini is associated with cars.)

What a strange time this has been - I heard a report that people spend billions in credit card debt during this time (Saturn rules Capricorn, and Saturn is the planet that deals with feelings of lack and debt).  Perhaps we could change this insatiable need to have more STUFF, and instead, try letting go of some of our possessions - I myself had a "Take What You Like and Leave the Rest Party" -- it was a great experience, and I feel so much lighter because of it.

BTW, Please say some prayers for Pakistan right now - that part of the world is related to Gemini / Sagittarius Axis, and this assasination of their new Woman Leader, Bhutto, was almost too much to endure.

Mars going Retrograde in Gemini will be opposing Pluto in it's last gasp in Sagittarius right on January 1st, so this New Year may start with a BANG!

I sometimes wish I were a Bear and I could just go live in a cave!

Some final thoughts before the New Year:  Along with the Sun, Jupiter and Mercury, which are all currently in the sign of Capricorn, Pluto will be joining them, by going into Capricorn very soon, (January 25, 2008) - this after being in Sagittarius since 1994!  (Did you happen to notice the huge shifts in religious beliefs, and more conflicts with foreign governments over the course of these past 13 years?)  (Sagittarius is associated with Religion and Foreigners.)

So, after Pluto dances back and forth between Capricorn and Sagittarius next year, it will go forward and stay in Capricorn for a LOOOOOONGGGG time, (until 2023).  And even if you don't call it a planet anymore, Pluto will do some damage to that Father image (Capricorn) and oppose that Mother image (Cancer).  Many people will be forced to examine their own sense of personal power, what constitutes work and business, and what is really the meaning of home, and we will definitely be asking "Who really is in charge?"  (What a year for an election!)  I think it best for all of us to find the ultimate authority, God, inside our hearts!
